The Brazoria County Bar Foundation, in conjunction with the Brazoria County Bar Association & the American Bar Association Law Day 2021, is sponsoring an Essay Writing Contest.

“Advancing the Rule of Law Now”

The rule of law is the bedrock of American rights and liberties—in times of calm and unrest alike. The 2021 Law Day theme—Advancing the Rule of Law, Now—reminds all of us that we the people share the responsibility to promote the rule of law, defend liberty, and pursue justice.

ESSAY CONTEST

*Applicants for this scholarship must be current 12th grade high school students: attending high school in Brazoria County, Texas or residing in Brazoria County, Texas.  Furthermore, the scholarship award is contingent upon applicant providing proof of Fall 2021 enrollment at a college/university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accreditation entity or a Council for Higher Education-recognized accreditation entity.

*The essay must be written in response to the following prompt:  In 750 words or less, explain how the rule of law is the bedrock of American rights and liberties—in times of calm and unrest alike. How do we the people share the responsibility to promote the rule of law, defend liberty, and pursue justice?  Lastly, how does the rule of law ensure an orderly and just society?

*All expenses involved in preparing and submitting an entry are the entrant’s responsibility.

*Entrants must allow the Brazoria County Bar Foundation, the Brazoria County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and/or the State Bar of Texas to reproduce entries in any medium without restriction.

*The essay must be submitted online, be no more than three pages, typewritten and be double-spaced, and be between 400 and 750 words.

*The submitted work must be the student’s own original work.

*The essay must be received by the Brazoria County Bar Foundation by Friday, March 19, 2021.

*The applicant agrees that by submitting an application, they are declaring they meet all the stated requirements of eligibility contained herein.

*Only one entry per student.

*Submission of application does not guarantee applicant will be awarded a scholarship.
