Bio:

Eric Gerard is a former federal prosecutor and seasoned trial lawyer with a unique blend of experience on both sides of the “v.” on both the civil and criminal sides of the docket.

Eric began his career in the trial division of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office in New York City, where he learned to try cases in the busiest court system in America. He later moved to Houston, working first as a defense litigator at Hogan Lovells and then as a plaintiffs’ attorney at Abraham Watkins. He then returned to government for several years, serving as an Assistant United States Attorney in both the Obama and Trump administrations. After returning to private practice, he was a partner for 3 years at a Philadelphia-based boutique that Benchmark Litigation has named one of the “10 Best Plaintiffs’ Firms in America.”

In 2021, he and his wife then decided to return to Houston to raise their family, and Eric rejoined former Abraham Watkins managing partner and Texas State Bar President Randy Sorrels’ new firm, Sorrels Law, as its first new partner. At Sorrels Law, Eric represents injured plaintiffs and their families in catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases around the country. He has successfully tried numerous cases to verdict and collected more than $150 million in settlements and verdicts for injured plaintiffs.

Eric earned his law degree from the University of Virginia, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif for graduating in the top 10% of his class. Also while in law school, he earned a master’s degree with high honors in international economics from the Johns Hopkins University. He has published articles and given talks on various legal issues throughout his career and received a variety of awards and honors. He is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and serves on the Foundation’s nominating committee, along with other charitable endeavors. He is licensed in Texas, Louisiana, and New York and was the top scorer in the state when he sat for the Texas Bar Exam.
